Why do our campers keep coming back? Check out our reviews!

"My kids couldn't stop talking about how much fun they had at a kid's night out program."

"My seven year old daughter had the absolute best time at Frenchtown Riding Club’s summer camp. Barbara and team found the perfect balance of education and fun while maintaining the warmest, most welcoming environment. The days are spent exploring the beautiful grounds on horseback with lessons, arts and crafts and games sprinkled in. I highly recommend FRC and will be enrolling again next summer!"

"Omg thank you so much. The girls loved it!! It’s such a wonderful experience that you provide for them. We are so grateful!! Xoxoxo "

"Every experience we have had with FRC has been overwhelmingly positive. Our daughter LOVED their summer camp and lessons and we have thoroughly enjoyed every event we have attended. As a seasoned horseperson myself, I also am very relieved to see how well their horses are cared for. I simply cannot recommend this place enough!"

"Wow this is so great. She had a blast! Thank you so much, you have such a wonderful place."

"Wonderful people, easy to work with, fun and full calendar of things to do. We love this barn - very welcoming."

"Their horses are cared for so well, they have a knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have so many fun things going on, but all are carried out in a safe and professional manner. Cannot say enough good things about them."

"Excellent quality instruction and great facilities (new indoor ring and 85 acres!) at a friendly (and fun!) family operated barn. The folks at FRC are totally on the ball—organized, responsible and caring. In addition to lessons, boarding, etc. they have frequent additional offerings for the whole family (e.g. holiday events, trail rides, movie nights) that the kids love and where they/we can really make friends. My kids just finished a winter break mini-camp, and begged to return in the summer after the first (and second and third!) day! I highly recommend FRC and will be enrolling again next summer!"

"I take the girl I babysit here and she loves it!! The people who work there are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The horses are happy, well cared for and great with kids!"

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Is five years old the minimum age for camp and lessons?

A. No, five is just the age at which most kids are ready. Child development varies wildly. What we look for in lessons is the ability to focus, to follow directions, to communicate clearly, and to remember and build on prior experiences. What we look for in camp is all of these, plus the ability to toilet independently and the readiness to be away from parents for three or more hours.

Q. May we schedule a tour before camp begins?

A. Yes, please do, especially if the camper is young and/or this will be a new experience. We want our campers - and their parents - to feel comfortable and confident and are happy to take the time to show them the facility, introduce them to some of the staff and horses, explain what we'll be doing in camp, and answer any questions they may have. We've found that it helps to reduce first-day jitters.

Q. What if my child refuses to get on a horse?

A. This is always a possibility. Horses are big and some new riders may, understandably, be nervous. We do our best to address their concerns and instill a level of confidence, but the choice is always theirs. We never force or insist. Instead, we gently work with them on the ground, where they may feel more comfortable, letting them set the pace. The most important thing is that their initial experiences are positive and that they feel safe, supported and in control.

Q. Is half-day or full-day better?

A. We recommend half day sessions for campers who are very young, shy, or unused to being away from home. Older, more independent campers will generally enjoy the longer camp day and the increased activities that it offers.

Q. Can the camp schedule be customized?

A. Yes, this may be an option if, for example, a child can only attend four days of a five-day camp session, or needs to leave early or arrive late on one or more days. Let us know what your needs are and we'll do our best to accommodate them.

Q. What if I have a question that's not covered here?

A. Call us at 908-628-9441 (please note that this is a landline and does not accept texts) or send an email to FrenchtownRidingClub@gmail.com. We are always happy to answer questions, address concerns, and provide information.
